Lübeck, Germany
Spent most of the day on the train before arriving in Lübeck, the famous "City of the Seven Towers", known for having more tall church towers than anywhere else in the world. The city's old streets and main gate go back centuries; the Holsten Gate itself was built in 1464, while some of the churches date to the 1100s.

Train from Copenhagen

After dinner, wandered around and took in the historic atmosphere.
Very neat place with plenty to see, but unless deeply interested in exploring churches, one or two nights here is probably enough.

Train to Amsterdam

Lovely breakfast in town, then walked another loop around town.

Lübeck to Amsterdam
The trains in Germany are really disappointing. Many of ours were delayed, and one delay made us miss a connection, forcing a longer route. One train even ended up on the wrong track, a cargo line, from Münster to Amsterdam. We had to stop and sit on the track while they sorted it out, then reversed several kilometers before continuing. That added about an hour to our trip. By the time we arrived in Amsterdam, we were late, tired, and hungry.
