Boise Trails Challenge 2026
The Boise Trails Challenge is a month long event where mountain bikers, hikers, and trail runners try to complete every trail on the Ridge to Rivers trail system before time runs out. It's been going since 2017 and is held in memory of Jason Delgadillo, one of its founders, who passed away in a mountain biking accident in 2018. This year's Challenge started on June 18 and, after a pause for wildfires, wrapped up on July 25.
Here's how the summer added up for me.
The Totals
- 19 rides
- 177.36 miles
- 27,933 feet of climbing
- 24 hours and 52 minutes of moving time
- 15,326 calories burned

Challenge complete!
Late in the Challenge, wildfires burned through a good chunk of the Military Reserve area, and several trails there ended up excluded from the requirements so people could still finish. I hadn't gotten to those trails yet, so for me it worked out fine.
But it wasn't fair to everyone. Some people had already knocked out the Military Reserve trails early in the Challenge, before the fires. For them, nothing got excluded. They ended up having to complete the full course anyway, something like 36,000 feet of climbing total, while everyone else who hadn't reached those trails yet got a shorter path to the finish. Just bad timing on their part, but it's a rough way for a summer of effort to shake out.
