Aunt Kay
Kay "KK" Francis Brown was my aunt, my mother's sister. I called her "Aunt Kay". She passed away today at the age of 88. 😦
She was born April 8, 1937, to my grandparents, Jessie and Alloys Whitaker. "Aunt Kay" was a woman of deep Christian faith. In 1960, she married my uncle, Gene Brown, and they shared 28 wonderful years until his passing in 1988. They raised three awesome kids, my cousins; Danny, Jason, and Amy. I love them all, they are wonderful people.
KK had a creative spirit, crafting beautiful pottery that reflected her artistic heart, and she enjoyed coloring and reading in her quiet hours. She was also a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan and apparently wore her Cubs gear proudly! Her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids were a huge source of pride for her.
As a child, I never really thought of my aunt Kay as a strong, independent woman, but she was.
She will be remembered for her kind heart, warm smile, and the love she shared so freely with those around her. I loved her dearly and we were deeply saddened that we weren't able to attend her funeral because we were in Europe. Her legacy will live on through the many lives she touched, the memories she made, and the faith she so deeply lived.
This was the last photo I took of her, from last autumn.
